On the morning of April 22, Professor Joe M.Regenstein from Cornell University, USA, was invited to our college and delivered a special report entitled “Genetic Modification of Organisms” in Lecture Hall 215, No. 39 Teaching Building. The report was hosted by Professor Li Hongjun, Executive Vice Dean of the Graduate School of Southwest University, with teachers and student representatives of the college in attendance.

At the beginning of the lecture, Professor Joe M. Regenstein started the presentation with the topic of genetically modified food. He shared his views on the effects of genetic modification on food quality. On this basis, he elaborated on four core aspects: the definition of GMO, the expression mechanism in the next stage of cultivation, existing problems in breeding systems, and key global discussions on GMO-related issues. Meanwhile, he explained the safety of genetically modified food and the viewpoints of relevant American scholars in this field.In the final session, Professor Joe M. Regenstein exchanged and discussed views on genetically modified food with the participating teachers and students.
Professor Joe M. Regenstein’s wonderful presentation and unique insights benefited all participating students greatly. This academic report broadened students’ international vision and helped promote the development of genetically modified food-related research in our college.
