Professor Mark Ritenour from the University of Florida Delivers Academic Report at the College

On the morning of June 22, Professor Mark Ritenour from the University of Florida was invited by the research group led by Professor Zeng Kaifang of our college. He delivered a special report entitled “Harvesting and Postharvest Handling of Fresh Florida Citrus: New Challenges from Huanglongbing” in the Lecture Hall 312, No. 39 Teaching Building, to students of the research group and some teachers and students from the Citrus Research Institute. The report was hosted by Professor Zeng Kaifang from the College of Food Science, Southwest University.

At the beginning of the lecture, Professor Mark Ritenour started with the commercial production process of citrus in Florida, USA. He shared the complete commercial production system of Florida citrus and vividly illustrated the operational methods and purposes of each production link.Based on the research achievements of his laboratory, Professor Mark Ritenour explained the application and efficacy of essential oil and waxing treatments in the control of postharvest citrus diseases, and briefly introduced citrus Huanglongbing (HLB).In the final session, Professor Mark Ritenour discussed with participating teachers and students key issues concerning postharvest disease prevention and commercial postharvest handling of citrus. After the lecture, Professor Mark Ritenour took a group photo with the attendees.

With his wonderful presentation and unique academic insights, Professor Mark Ritenour broadened the students’ academic horizons and provided innovative ideas for the development of postharvest citrus research in our college.
