On January 11, theBelt and RoadOnline International Symposium on Food Safety and Nutrition, organized by the College of Food Science andthe Chinese-Hungarian Cooperative Research Center for Food Science, was held online.
Attending the symposium were Vice President Chen Shijian; András Zoltán Balogh, Science and Technology Counselor of the Embassy of Hungary in Beijing; Luo Qing, Science and Technology Counselor of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Hungary; Lei Hongmei, Science and Technology Counselor of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Spain; Zhang Huasheng, Science and Technology Counselor of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Egypt; Kada Gergely, Consul General of Hungary in Chongqing; and more than 30 experts in food science from relevant countries.

On behalf of the university, Chen Shijian extended a warm welcome to the counselors, the consul general, and the participating experts and scholars, and expressed heartfelt gratitude for their continued support of the university. Chen Shijian presented the international science and technology cooperation achievements of the university's Chinese-Hungarian Cooperative Research Center for Food Science, and expressed the hope that, with the support of the counselors, the consul general, and the experts, the university could open up a new chapter in international science and technology cooperation research under the new circumstances through further exchanges and discussions with the partner teams from Hungary, Egypt, and Spain.
Dr. Rasha El-Shinety, Director of the Technology Transfer and Innovation Commercialization Office at Alexandria University, Egypt, delivered remarks on behalf of the participating experts. She noted that food safety and nutrition are a shared concern for the whole world, that the earlier cooperation between Alexandria University and Southwest University has already shown results, and that she would continue to support the two sides in carrying out international science and technology cooperation research. The four counselors — András Zoltán Balogh, Luo Qing, Lei Hongmei, and Zhang Huasheng — also delivered speeches at the conference respectively, hoping that the cooperating teams would further broaden their cooperation channels and make new contributions toBelt and Roadinternational science and technology cooperation.
During the conference, experts from the Food Science Research Institute of the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences, the Institute of Fats and Oils (Instituto de la Grasa) of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), Ain Shams University of Egypt, Alexandria University of Egypt, and the university's Chinese-Hungarian Cooperative Research Center for Food Science delivered 12 wonderful academic presentations, shared research experience, and discussed international science and technology cooperation and exchange under the new circumstances.
The symposium was moderated by the relevant director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges, with representatives from the Science and TechnologyDepartmentand the College of Food Science in attendance. The successful holding of the symposium will further advance the university's international science and technology cooperation and exchange in the food field under theBelt and Roadframework, and promote deeper and more concreteBelt and Roadinternational science and technology cooperation.
