University's Chinese-Hungarian Cooperative Research Center for Food Science Participates in "China–Hungary Science and Innovation Day"

To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Hungary, on September 10, 2024, under the guidance of the Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China and the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Hungary, theChinese-Hungarian Cooperative Research Center for Food Scienceinvited experts from the Institute of Food Science and Technology of the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences to host lectures as part of the "China–Hungary Science and Innovation Day" event. The event was attended by Hungarian senior researcher Zsolt Péter Zalán, Ferenc Hegyi, a researcher and Talented Young Scientist Program (TYSP) fellow of the Ministry of Science and Technology, senior researcher Andras Nagy, along with ProfessorKan Jianquan, Director of theChinese-Hungarian Cooperative Research Center for Food Science, ProfessorDu Muying, Deputy Director, Associate ProfessorChen Kewei, Deputy Director, and over 40 members of the Research Center.

Zsolt Péter Zalán's research primarily focuses on lactic acid bacteria and their metabolism. He has served as principal investigator for numerous national (OTKA, NKTH) and international (TéT bilateral cooperation) research and development projects and is the project lead of a key intergovernmental R&D project between China and Hungary. He delivered aspeciallecture entitled "Exploration and Application of Lactic Acid Bacteria Resources," in which he reviewed the nearly two-decade-long history of bilateral cooperation in the field of food science and exchanged views on the ongoing key R&D projects. Following the presentation, the attending faculty and students had the opportunity to sample Hungary's signature fruit brandy—Pálinka.

It is reported that the 2024 Pujiang Innovation Forum, co-hosted by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government under the theme "Innovation for Shared Future: Building an Open Environment for Scientific and Technological Innovation," opened in Shanghai on September 7. The "China–Hungary Science and Innovation Day" was inaugurated at the opening ceremony. Since its establishment in 2017, theChinese-Hungarian Cooperative Research Center for Food Sciencehas been dedicated to promoting scientific and technological innovation cooperation and people-to-people exchanges between China and Hungary. The lectures held as part of the "China–Hungary Science and Innovation Day" event serve as a vivid demonstration of such bilateral cooperation in science, technology, and innovation.
