Expert Review Meeting on the Development Plan of the China-Hungary Belt and Road Joint Laboratory of Food Science (in Preparation) Held

On March 24, the Expert Review Meeting on the Development Plan of the China-Hungary Belt and Road Joint Laboratory of Food Science (in Preparation) was held in Conference Room No. 5, Xingshu Building (Administrative Building). The review expert panel was composed of eight experts, including Researcher WangZhe from the Chinese Institute of Food Science and Technology, Professor ZhaoMouming fromSouth China University of Technology, Professor LiZhengguo from Chongqing University, Professor MaoJian from Jiangnan University, Professor LeiHongtao from South China Agricultural University, Professor ZhangYuhao from the Chongqing Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Professor LuBaiyi from Zhejiang University, and Professor LiuShuangping from the National Engineering Research Center of Cereal Fermentation and Food Biomanufacturing. President Wang Jinjun and Vice President Fan Daming attended the meeting. Also present were directors from the Institute of Science and Technology Development and the College of Food Science, along with heads of other relevant units and the university's Belt and Road Joint Laboratory.

During the meeting, Professor KanJianquan,ExecutiveDirector of the Joint Laboratory, delivered a detailed report on the Laboratory's development plan, covering seven key aspects: the background of the Laboratory'sestablishment, strategic positioning, overall objectives, development directions and layout, anticipated tasks and outcomes, operation and management safeguards, and next-step implementation measures. The attending experts engaged in in-depth discussions on the development plan, offering valuable recommendations on how to further integrate resources, optimize research directions, and enhance the Laboratory's international presence.

Professor FanDaming stated that the experts' suggestions were both strategic and far-sighted, providing important guidance for the subsequent establishment of the Joint Laboratory. He added that the university would actively incorporate the experts' recommendations, accelerate the Laboratory's progress, and strive to achieve its anticipated goals as soon as possible.

In his concluding remarks, President WangJinjun expressed his gratitude to the expert panel for their participation and underscored the significance of international scientific and technological cooperation in the context of the Belt and Road Initiative. He noted that the Joint Laboratory would leverage four major platforms—international scientific and technological cooperation and innovation, transformation and transfer of research outputs, international talent recruitment and cultivation, and mutual learning and dissemination of civilizations—to facilitate joint efforts between China, Hungary, and other Belt and Road countries in tackling common technological challenges, accelerate the industrialization of technologies, attract young scientists from around the world, and promote culinary cultural exchangeas well aspeople-to-people connectivity. He further highlighted that the review of the Joint Laboratory's development plan was not only an imperative response to national strategic needs but also an intrinsic requirement for promoting local industrial upgrading and the university's high-quality development. He pledged that the university would seize this historic opportunity, leverage the high-quality construction of the Joint Laboratory as a key driver, and comprehensively advance the integrationof disciplinary construction, talent cultivation, and scientific research within the university's "Greater Food" sector, thereby contributing to the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative and serving the growth of Chongqing's food and agricultural product processing industry cluster.
