Southwest University Hosts 2025 Belt and Road International Symposium on Food Safety and Nutrition

On October 12, the 2025 Belt and Road International Symposium on Food Safety and Nutrition, concurrently serving as the Food Safety and Nutrition Sub-forum of the 2025 International Symposium on Industry-University-Research Collaboration (Chongqing), was held at Haiyu Hot Spring Hotel. The symposium was jointly organized by theChina-Hungary Belt and Road Joint Laboratory of Food Science(in preparation), the university's Chinese–HungarianCooperativeResearch Centerfor Food Science, the College of Food Science of Southwest University, the Science and Technology Bureau of Beibei District, Chongqing, the Science and Technology Bureau of Mianyang City, Sichuan Province, and the Chongqing Society of Food Science and Technology. The event brought together over 200 experts in food science and related fields from China, Hungary, Russia, Egypt, Brazil, Spain, and Switzerland, participating both onsite and online. Distinguished attendees includedXu Zhipeng, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Chongqing Municipal Science and Technology Bureau;Lyu Jun, Deputy District Mayor of Beibei District, Chongqing; Kürti Tamás, Deputy Consul General of the Consulate General of Hungary in Chongqing;Liu Hua, representative of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Hungary; and Professor FanDaming, Vice President of Southwest University.

At the opening ceremony, Professor FanDaming delivered a welcome address, in which he presented the achievements of the university's Chinese–Hungarian Cooperative Research Center for Food Science. He expressed his hope that, with the support of experts from various parties and through in-depth exchanges and discussions with research teams from Hungary, Egypt, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, and other countries, the Center would open new horizons for international scientific and technological cooperation in the field of food science.

In his remarks,Xu Zhipengexpressed his hope that the participating guests would focus on key scientific issues in food science and technology and related industrial development, strengthen forward-looking strategic planning, promote industry-university-research collaborative innovation, intensify scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation, and generate more pioneering and landmark achievements.

Lyu Junexpressed his expectation that the symposium would serve as a platform for collaborative innovation among experts and scholars, facilitating the sharing of advanced experience and technologies and building broader consensus for cooperation. He also extended a welcome to more domestic and international experts, scholars, and entrepreneurs to engage in academic exchanges, technological collaboration, and investment and business development in Beibei District.

Mr. Kürti Tamás stated that the Consulate General of Hungary in Chongqing would, as always, provide full support to the Joint Laboratory and the Cooperation Research Center, actively encouraging more universities, research institutions, and enterprises from both countries to join this cooperation network, and facilitating talent exchanges and project implementation.

Liu Huaexpressed his hope that the participating experts and scholars would take the symposium as an opportunity to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation, share the latest research findings and experiences, jointly explore new methods and approaches to address food safety and nutrition challenges, and further advance Sino-Hungarian cooperation in the field of food safety and nutrition.

During the symposium, 22 academic presentations were delivered by experts from a range of universities, medical institutions, and research organizations, including the Hungarian Universityof Agriculture and Life Sciences, Alexandria University (Egypt), Novosibirsk State Technical University (Russia), Ural Federal University (Russia), University of Zaragoza (Spain), Federal University of Santa Maria (Brazil), University of Geneva (Switzerland), the Institute of Lipids of the Spanish National Research Council, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, Chongqing Jiulongpo District People's Hospital, Southwest Minzu University, and the university's Chinese–Hungarian Cooperative Research Center for Food Science.
